Summer’s here and you’re probably either saying “whoohoo!” or “oh no.” If you’re the ladder, that’s okay, we’ve all been there. Life somehow snuck up on you and somewhere between the holiday party binge and the late nights out on the town, you lost sight of your goals.
The first step is to realize that some changes need to happen in order for you to see the results you want. Now, the changes don’t have to be dramatic. Often, it’s the little changes that have the most impact in the long run. But if you’re unsure of what changes you need to make to start this new lifestyle, here are some of our best tips on how you can get your body AND mind in shape.
1. Drink up!
If you want to be healthy and lose weight, water needs to be your best friend. Keeping your body hydrated is probably one of the easiest ways to take care of your body. Without water, your body becomes dehydrated, which may cause fatigue and slow down your metabolism. Drink at least half of your body weight in ounces every day and you’re good! If you want to check and see whether or not you’re properly hydrated, check your pee. If the shade is like lemonade, you’re good! But if it’s dark like apple juice, start grabbing yourself a glass of water.

2. Eat lean, green and clean
Make sure you’re including a lot of leafy greens and protein into your diet. Also, make sure you replace “bad” carbs like refined grains (white rice, pretzels, bagels, etc.) with “good” carbs like whole-grain products (brown rice, beans, whole oats, etc.). Also make sure to eat raw fruits instead of their artificial counterparts (an actual strawberry vs. strawberry flavored snacks).

3. Be consistent
The best way to keep the weight off is to be consistent in your workouts and diet. Working out at the same time every day will help condition your body and help with the momentum. Also, make it fun by including more cardio in your everyday life. For example, take the stairs instead of riding the elevator or walking while you talk on the phone rather than laying down on the sofa.
4. Stay Positive!
You are taking the first step of deciding to do what’s best for your body and that is a HUGE achievement within itself. You may not be where you want to be yet but stay positive and you WILL get there. Others around you may seem like they’re getting better results than you and that may be true sometimes, but don’t think that your results will only be physical ones. Once you commit to a healthy and fit lifestyle, your whole life changes. You’re happier, healthier and stronger than you’ve ever been before. THAT is your result. So stay strong and stay positive.
