Monday Motivation ~ Lindsay’s Story

Monday Motivation ~ Lindsay's Story

We want to kick off the week by providing you with a dose of motivation. Before you know it it’s going to be time to break out your bikini and head to the pool. That means you need to start stepping it up in the gym and make sure you are eating clean, green and lean. Get Fit Now member Lindsay has been crushing it in the gym for the past couple of months and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

Tell us about yourself!

Hey guys! I’m a recent Boston transplant to Atlanta. I moved here in August of 2015 for work. I’m a surgical sales rep for Olympus, selling surgical cameras and scopes to surgeons all over the state. I am 24, single, no kids, and pretty much married to my work (and now my new healthy lifestyle!)

What made you decide to make a change in your life and join Get Fit Now?

I’ve always been physically active. I played sports all of my life, and I’ve always made working out a priority. Well, I should say that I’ve made CARDIO a priority. I could literally run for hours and not lose a single pound. Sure, sometimes my pants felt a bit loser, but that never lasted. I’ve read article after article about how eating clean and lifting weights is important for getting results, but I just couldn’t motivate myself to pick up weights in a male infested gym. Where would I start? Are they judging me? I forgot who coins this term, but “gymtimidation” is a real thing!!

Then I came across GFN on my Facebook newsfeed. It was like a calling from above. 45 minute work outs, accountability, and a meal plan- It was exactly what I needed! Click here to join us for your next workout!

What goals did you set for yourself?

At first I said that I wanted to lose X amount of pounds before my Birthday (which is in April). While I’m on track to hit that target, I’ve also come to realize that there are a lot of other factors that play into looking good and feeling good. Take body fat percentage or inches, for instance. I honestly have become more interested in how much body fat I’ve lost instead of how many pounds I’ve lost because I’m working towards a leaner, and stronger physic. With that being said, my goals have shifted slightly. My goal is to be under 18% body fat by July 1 (prime time bathing suit season).

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep going?

I think it’s most important to believe in yourself and to trust the process. Starting off was rough. I felt fat, out of shape, and discouraged when I didn’t see results right off the bat. Then I reminded myself that this weight didn’t take a week to put on, so it certainly won’t come off in a week. So I guess you could say that keeping a positive mindset is the foundation of my motivation to keep going.

Also….. I’m not one to take selfies, but I have to admit- taking a selfie of myself in my sports bra/yoga pants every few weeks to track my progress is very motivating. Last week was the first time I looked at myself and said “damn, are those abs?” And I’m no Jillian Michaels by ANY means, but these pictures sure are motivation to keep pushing forward!

How has joining Get Fit Now contributed to your success?

Moving to a new place was very hard for me. It was difficult leaving family and friends for a completely different life. I admit to spending weekend upon weekend cooped up on the couch binge watching Netflix. It wasn’t until I joined Get Fit Now that my love affair with Netflix started to diminish. I was eating AMAZING food, working out with a motivating/nonjudgmental group, and most importantly- I was seeing results!! GFN not only helped me to get on track physically, but it helped me TREMENDOUSLY from an emotional standpoint. GFN is the reason why I started to love myself again. And it wasn’t until this point that I began to love my life in Atlanta. I’d call that success.
