We’re already 2 weeks into July but it seems like the summer parties are only just starting! It can be stressful to stick to your nutrition plan when you’re at a party, at a restaurant, or on the road. Sometimes the situation is just out of your control so you’ll just have to make the best of it and find a way to sustain your exercise and diet regimen. So to we’ve come up with a few tips to help you tackle the parties head-on and stay on track.
1. Eat Before
If you’re full, you won’t be as tempted to try out those deep fried potato chips your friend just bought. If it’s a dinner party and you’re going there for the sole purpose of eating, have a snack beforehand so you’re not so hungry.
2. Make Wise Choices
Make the healthier choice by choosing the fruit platter and cold cuts over the greasy and high-calorie junk food. If you’re expected to bring food to the party, bring a healthy dish that everyone can enjoy so you can also have something to eat if the other choices are outside of your nutritional comfort zone.
3. Use small portions
Get the foods you want but get them in smaller portions so you can enjoy the foods you like without going overboard. You can also use a smaller plate to limit your portions as well.
4. Drink Up
Water is the answer to everything. Drinking a glass of water will keep you from being hungry and heading towards the dinner table without abandon. If you insist on having a cocktail, alternate each one with a glass of water so you’ll end up drinking less.
5. Swap out your sides
Sides can be dangerous if you choose the wrong one. Switching out fries for a side of greens can save you a HUGE amount of calories. Steamed vegetables or side salads are probably your best bet.
6. Take It Home
Don’t think of it as wasting your food or anything like that. Think of it as saving you from saddlebags and a side of regret. Also, you’ll have 2 meals for the price of one.
