Today we’re going to do things a little different and talk about something that everyone hates, Acne. Acne can sometimes feel like little gifts from hell and when I say sometimes, I mean all the time. No one likes them and to make it worse, most of the time, we’re the ones causing them! That’s right, bad nutrition just might be the culprit. So we’ve done our research and compiled a list of food items on our grocery list that have acne-fighting properties that are also good for your body as well!
1. Foods rich in selenium
These include almonds, garlic, Brazil nuts and whole grains. Selenium is an antioxidant that will help reduce inflammation while preserving skin elasticity.
2. Foods with high water content.
This is kind of a way to sneak in more intakes of water in your day. Your body needs water and lots of it so by eating foods like watermelon and cucumbers, you can provide your body with the water it needs without having to fill up another glass. On that note, also avoid high sodium foods to prevent water retention.
3. Foods high in antioxidants
No shocker here, antioxidants are great for your skin and overall health. Antioxidant rich foods includes all the berries (blueberries, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, you name it) and dark green vegetables, like spinach.
4. Foods with omega-3 fatty acids
Just because they’re called ‘fatty acids’ doesn’t mean they’re bad for you. Foods that are rich in omega-3’s includes fish (salmon, tuna steak, wild rainbow trout), walnuts and flax seeds. These foods can help reduce inflammation and can also help reduce the natural chemicals in your body that are responsible for wrinkles!
5. Vitamin E rich foods
Foods like soybeans, almonds, eggs, and nuts can help prevent scarring so make sure you include these foods in your next meal if you’re prone to acne scars.
