Wedding photos are no doubt near the top of the to-do list for any bride. You either love being in front of the camera or dread how every pair of lens take joy in adding a couple of pounds to your body. Still, like it or not, when the big day comes…the cameras come out. No doubt you have worked out long and hard for this day, but the wrong poses, foods or makeup can set you back big time. Here are some of our best tips and tricks to looking your best on your wedding day.
1. Shift your weight and stand at a slight angle
One of the most common mistakes people make when posing is standing straight on to the camera. Doing this will make you look blocky and stiff, so instead, shift your weight to one leg and angle one side of your body slightly away from the camera. By slightly angling your body you will look much more relaxed for the photo and slimmer as well!
2. Elbows out
To create the illusion of slimmer arms, simply place your hands on your hips with your elbows out, while also keeping a slight angle to your body. Specifically for brides, it may get confusing when it comes to posing with the bouquet, but just make sure to bend the elbows away from the body and angled away from the camera. This will also help in showing off your beautiful waistline!
3. Pull your face forward
Pulling your face forward will elongate your neck while also accentuating your jawline, making the “double-chin” a thing of the past. Also, try to have your forehead forward and lowering your chin. Not so much that your neck begins to crease, but just enough so that your jawline is visible.
4. Stay away from foods that causes bloating
So you may think that you will be safe by sticking to just healthy foods before the big day. While this is true, some healthy foods may actually cause unnecessary bloating, which is a nightmare to brides everywhere. To avoid this, stay away from beans, foods high in salt, alcohol (sorry ladies), carbonated drinks and vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli a week before the big day. These foods and drinks lead to increased gas production which causes bloating. As a quick fix, try some ginger tea or plain Greek yogurt to relieve any gas build-up. Foods high in potassium, such as bananas, are also good in combating against high salt foods.
5. Wear waterproof makeup
It’s your big day. You are nuts if you think you’re not going to shed a tear here and there or sweat like a mad woman as you dance the night away. So make sure you or your make-up artist pick the best waterproof foundation and mascara so that while YOU are on the move, your make-up stays put.
6. Don’t slouch
You hear this all the time but that doesn’t make it any less true. Slouching does nothing for your back and could ruin a photo because it can make you look out of proportion, so make sure you pull your shoulders back for a better looking photo.
7. Lower your bouquet
Here’s a quick tip for posing with the bouquet. Lower the bouquet slightly lower than your waist. Doing this will make your arms look more natural and relaxed. Besides, you paid how much for that dress?? Don’t cover it up, we want to see it!
8. Smile and be happy
Cheesy but true. Be happy, why not? It’s your big day! Genuine smiles will make you feel much better and your posture will show it. Also, don’t be afraid to laugh, candid photos sometimes end up being the bride’s all-time favorite.
